We're excited to collaborate with Gigi Chew, founder of Spark Arts in Park Slope, to bring a series of three adult art workshops to RIDER on 8th Ave! With more than 15 years of experience in teaching creative arts, Gigi offers a distinctive approach that combines artistic expression, cultural exploration, and a profound connection to nature. Typically a children’s program, this is the first adult series from Spark Arts.

WORKSHOP SCHEDULE:

Painting with Natural Inks
Date: Monday, September 16th, 6pm

Discover the vibrant world of natural pigments! You’ll create your own greeting cards using organic materials like madder root and logwood, as well as locally foraged finds. This class is perfect for those who love to connect meaningfully with nature.

Printmaking with Linocuts
Date: Monday, September 30th, 6pm

Dive into the traditional art of linocut printmaking. Design, carve, and print your own bold, graphic prints to take home, gaining hands-on experience with this timeless and versatile technique.

Millefiori Bead Making
Date: Monday, October 7th, 6pm

Millefiori means “thousand flowers” in Italian, and traces back to ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt. Learn the intricate art of millefiori bead making using polymer clay. You’ll create beautifully detailed beads perfect for your next DIY jewelry project.

$55 per class, limited tix available.
All supplies will be provided.
Each class will run approximately 1½ to 2 hours long.

ABOUT SPARK ARTS
Gigi Chew is an educator who has taught creative arts classes for close to 15 years. She runs Spark Arts (www.sparkartsbk.org), a children’s arts enrichment program based in the Park Slope neighborhood of Brooklyn. Spark Arts brings together a blend of artistic expression inspired by traditional arts from around the world, cultural study, mindfulness practice, as well as connection to nature through plant identification, foraging and natural crafting. Gigi herself is an artist whose favorite pastime is to gather materials from nature for crafting projects. Over the years, Gigi has been urged by her students’ parents to run adult classes, so she is happy to now be offering adult classes in collaboration with RIDER!
